About Pietra Mello-Pittman

Mello-Pittman was one of the lucky few who won a place with the Royal Ballet Company after entering full-time ballet training, with the Royal Ballet School, at the latest possible stage at 16 years old. She performed all the classics, created roles in new productions, and has performed all over the world with the Royal Ballet including the Mariinsky and Bolshoi Theatres in Russia and in Cuba with Carlos Acosta.

Pietra, along with her Sisters Grimm co-founder Ella Spira, were honoured with an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the 2021 New Years Honours List for services to International Trade and the Creative Industry. Sisters Grimm portfolio of 7 global productions are socially relevant, engaging audiences by being entertaining and accessible without compromising on artistic quality. Whilst promoting diversity, Sisters Grimm is also passionate about seeing ethnic and economic diversity in their audiences too.

In this episode, Pietra discusses her journey from training as a ballet dancer to winning a spot in the Royal Ballet Company to now becoming a producer for ballet plays. She talks about the difference between performing on stage as a ballet dancer and working behind the scenes as a producer.
